Somehow a bit underestimated speaker!
Advertised as the bass heavier version of the FTR15-3070C, first Celestion ceased production. Probably because there is no significant difference in the bass extension and the frequency/impedance curve of FTR15-3070C looks easier to work with when first order filter will be used.
Then these speakers are on the way of becoming old stock, because they didn't receive popularity like the 3070C due to some positive internet reviews.
Somehow this made me sad and decided to write down my impressions.
I bought mine two years ago and I chose the 3070E version because I am not a huge fan of big inductor coils. Plus, Celestion advertised them as the cabinet builder's dream!:)
I wouldn't say that manufacturing quality is impressive either. Don't get me wrong! Chassis is nice, cone is nice, terminals are good. It is just a bit final touch and that you can feel the difference by hand in the suspension stiffness between the two units in the pair I bought.
But sound wise I still enjoy them. Probably the cone is made of good material, because the mid range is lovely. The only flaw is that they are a bit bass shy as the frequency curve suggests. 185 liters ported cabinet is required to get a decent bass extension. Pair them with Celestion CDX1-1747 and you will have a coherent, warm and rich sound.
They love old solid state amplifiers with low damping factor, tube preamp and a decent BB DAC. Who doesn't!
Once properly tuned this speaker sounds very natural and open!
