The pure titanium diaphragm is produced in house and has been developed to assure unmatched transient response. The diaphragm assembly is made by joining the former directly to the titanium dome using its upper bend edge. In comparison with a usual straight former joint, the driver design assures extended frequency energy transfer giving improved response linearity and unparallel reliability. This feature facilitates proper motion control of the dome in real working conditions. A proprietary treated Nomex former is used as Nomex shows a 30% higher value of tensile elongation at a working operative temperature (200°C) when compared to Kapton. Moreover, this proprietary former material is also suitable for use in high moisture content environments. By carefully using elementary pieces of neodymium magnets, Eighteen Sound engineers have developed a powerful neodymium magnet assembly capable of reaching 19KGauss in the gap in compact and lightweight structures. The motor structure, throughout the precisely coherent phase plug with 3 circumferential slots and copper ring on the pole piece, reduces inductance effects and distortion. Four top plate air ducts have been designed to act as a loading chamber for the diaphragm, implementing mid band distortion and response figures. The custom designed O-ring creates a tight seal between the plate and the cover assuring air chamber loading. Excellent heat dissipation and thermal exchange are guaranteed by the direct contact between the magnetic structure and the aluminum cover which leads to a lower power compression value. The ability of equipment to perform properly under inclement weather conditions is a key feature of the Eighteen Sound philosophy. Hence, a special treatment is applied to the magnet and the top and back plates of the magnetic structure which increases the ND1460 resistance to the corrosive effects of salts and oxidization. This treatment is more effective than any other treatment in use today.

Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN) has been used for the diaphragm assembly, giving to ND1020 a superior diaphragm dimensional stability compared to conventional Mylar film (160°C as a thermal rating compared to 105°C for PET) and maintaining a constant performance during its whole working life. PEN film, with its very high value of elasticity modulus (6000MPa compared to 4000MPa for PET and 2800MPa for polyimide film), is capable of a superior transient and intermodulation distortion response. The flat punched suspension shape has been designed to maintain low stiffness for superior low mid band distortion and response. An edge-wound copper clad aluminum voice coil wound on treated Nomex completes the diaphragm assembly. Nomex shows a 20% higher value of tensile elongation at 200°C than the value at room temperature, (in comparison, Kapton tensile elongation is 30% lower at 200°C than the value at room temperature). The ND1020 1-inch exit high frequency compression driver has been designed for use in situations where the highest possible sound quality is required. Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN) has been used for the diaphragm assembly, giving to ND1020 a superior diaphragm dimensional stability compared to conventional Mylar film (160°C as a thermal rating compared to 105°C for PET) and maintaining a constant performance during its whole working life. PEN film, with its very high value of elasticity modulus (6000MPa compared to 4000MPa for PET and 2800MPa for polyimide film), is capable of a superior transient and intermodulation distortion response. The flat punched suspension shape has been designed to maintain low stiffness for superior low mid band distortion and response. An edge-wound copper clad aluminum voice coil wound on treated Nomex completes the diaphragm assembly. Nomex shows a 20% higher value of tensile elongation at 200°C than the value at room temperature, (in comparison, Kapton tensile elongation is 30% lower at 200°C than the value at room temperature). Hence, Nomex is capable of keeping energy transfer from the voice coil to the dome under control, especially when the voice coil reaches high temperatures. As a plus, treated Nomex former voice coil can work well even in high moisture content environments, thanks to its very low porosity. The ND1020 is equipped with unique Phase Plug architecture, designed to give smooth coherent wave front at the horn entrance over the whole working frequency range, as well as high level manufacturing consistency. The phase plug design shows short openings and high flare rate value, assuring low distortion and demonstrates remarkable improvements in mid-high frequency reproduction. The ND1018BT 1-inch exit high frequency compression driver is designed for high quality two-way systems applications. Equipped with proprietary Phase Plug architecture, the ND1018BT compression driver offers high level manufacturing consistency and smooth coherent wavefront at horn entrance over all the working frequency range. The phase plug design with short openings and high flare rate value assures low distortion and remarkable improvements in mid-high frequency reproduction. With its ellipsoidal suspension shape, the ND1018BT titanium diaphragm assembly exhibits constant slope response from 1kHz to 18kHz with uniform smooth roll-off behavior. An edge-wound aluminum voice coil, wounded on proprietary treated Nomex, completes diaphragm assembly. Thanks to its physical properties, the proprietary treated Nomex former shows 30% higher value of tensile elongation at working operative temperature (200°C) when compared to Kapton. Moreover, this proprietary former material is suitable to work also in higher moisture contents environments. Through careful use of elementary pieces of neodymium magnets, Eighteen Sound engineers have developed a powerful neodymium magnet assembly able to reach 18 KGauss in the gap in compact and lightweight structure. A copper ring on the pole piece reduces inductance above 10 kHz improving phase and impedance linearization. The custom designed O-ring creates a tight seal between the plate and the cover assuring air chamber loading. For the increase in use of high power audio systems at outdoor events or in marine environments, the ability to perform properly under inclement weather conditions is a key-point of the Eighteen Sound philosophy. In addition, the special treatment applied to the magnet and the top and back plates of the magnetic structure makes the driver more resistant to the corrosive effects of salts and oxidization.
