I am using this Fostex as a wide-range mid driver in a 3-way loudspeaker for a cheap diy tube amp. Obviously, the goal for this 3-way system was a high efficiency. I always had a soft spot for these low-moving-mass Fostex drivers. I am using it in the loudspeaker completely X-over-less and open-back (plastic tube across the cabinet with the rear open, tube filled with poly wool), and it does not disappoint at all. It sounds crisp, agile and airy, and - to my surprise - not agressive in the delicate 2-3 kHz region at all despite no filtering whatsoever. The low moving mass (3g) in respect to the driver size, the strong motor system (Qts = 0,34) and low mechanic losses (Qms = 3,51) really are a good combination.

However, those who regard a linear and resonance-free frequency response to be important above all else may not be too happy with this driver. As many Fostex drivers of this family, they do show some resonances around 1-2 kHz. This is the drawback of the low moving mass and little damping - there is little room to tame resonances. For those who rather judge by ear and like a crisp, open and nimble presentation, this driver (and its smaller sisters from the FE-NV-family) is for you. That said, I never had the impression to be able to hear said resonances, so this is rather an issue before a microphone than before your ears.
