Very soon after its market launch in 1992, the MCap® SUPREME Classic gained international recognition as a first-class capacitor. Today, it is considered by many users to be a milestone in the generation of modern audiophile capacitors.
The self-healing polypropylene capacitor film used here is first metallized with the thickest layer of aluminum possible, then precisely wound into a distinctive SUPREME winding geometry and finally potted by hand in plastic boxes. special aluminum to minimize microphony.
These characteristics are reflected in the musical reproduction with their holographic three-dimensionality and exceptional tonal balance.
Mundorf MCap® SUPREME are metallized polypropylene film capacitors based on audiophile SUPREME winding technology. The special arrangement of the capacitor films (head-to-tail) allows almost complete mutual cancellation of the inductivity of the individual windings. The additional material cost is however significant since it is necessary to use two 2 µF windings to build a single 1 µF Mundorf MCap® SUPREME capacitor. The size is also more important. This innovative process is mainly manual, this also explains the higher price compared to a traditional MKP capacitor. Furthermore, in order to exclude coloration of the musical signal due to microphonics, the Mundorf MCap® SUPREME capacitor is mechanically stabilized by hand in an additional process and molded in a special case. This high degree of effort is absolutely justified by the fascinating and realistic musical experience, with the plasticity of the performance on stage which is fully released by the speaker and is practically holographic, with crystalline contours and an exceptional depth shift.
Polypropylene (PP) is used as a dielectric in many film capacitors. It is a partially crystalline hydrocarbon that reliably meets the highest standards for safety in use, pulse handling capability, AC voltage resistance and dielectric strength. The extreme temperature and frequency stability of ultra-low ESR and capacitance value of polypropylene is absolutely unique. Added to this are fantastic mechanical characteristics such as very stable film thickness for the highest production precision or high elasticity and thermal plasticity for ultra stable and vibration damped capacitor winding.
MCap® SUPREME CLASSIC Metallized Capacitors (MKP) are wound using films with a vacuum metallized aluminum layer. This modern structure is compact, reliable and also has exceptional self-healing properties (i.e. the metal layer evaporates around damaged points in the dielectric, thus insulating them).
Aluminum is the standard and benchmark in capacitor construction, due to its conductivity (the highest of all base metals) and excellent value for money. The aluminum MKPs are characterized by a musical playback rich in detail, lively and harmonious.
