My trusty and beloved 20 years old JBL TI10k have just been reborn by replacing the tweeter dome with Audax TW025A14-4 diaphragm kits.
The treble reproduction was increasingly poor: Low resolution, dull and weak at low levels and not coherent at higher levels.
I upgraded the crossover capacitors to good film types, improving midrange reproduction nicely, but also exposing ugly weakness of the tweeters.
I noticed that the diaphragm suspension/surrounding was stiff and sluggish and decided for purchasing a set of Audax TW025A14-4 diaphragm, regardless that the old ones electrically and visually appeared "okay".
Immediately after installation I noticed a significant improvement, and after just a few hours of break-in, they really shine. The treble reproduction is detailed, dynamic, smooth, clear, crisp and coherent (i.e. "normal") again.
I will personally strongly recommend replacing tweeter domes, for anyone having JBL TI10k (or TI2k, or TI6k) with similar poor treble!!!
